As a respected leader in energy and economics, Martha founded WattzOn (originally as Ennovationz) to help the massive and greatly underserved residential energy efficiency market. Martha was CEO of Vocomo Software, a voice software company, Chief Economist of PLX Systems, a patent and copyright software company, and co-founder of Glaze Creek Partners, a consulting firm she sold to Navigant Consulting (NYSE: NCI). Martha is the co-author of two books published by the Harvard Business School Press (Value Sweep and Real Options), and a third book published by McGraw-Hill. Martha is a frequent speaker on residential energy efficiency and business strategy. She is a Senior Fellow of the Milken Institute, where she has written reports on financial innovations in the biotech and cleantech industries. Martha holds a PhD in Applied Economics from MIT's Sloan School of Management.
Steven heads product strategy, development and marketing for WattzOn. Previously Steven lead product management and marketing for two Idealab (Los Angeles based business incubator) portfolio companies, including roles as Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Product for Vendare Media (now Epic Media), a $100 million revenue online marketing company and as Senior Vice President for Product Strategy and Marketing for New.net, a consumer Internet search network reaching over 40 million unique users monthly. Steven is also a veteran of Microsoft where he spent seven years in senior roles in product management and marketing. Steven completed the Customer Focused Innovation program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in partnership with the Institute of Design at Stanford. At Microsoft, Steven also received advanced education in marketing from the Kellogg School of Management.
Prior to working at Wattzon, Michel was the Chief Green Officer for Hara, the leading enterprise energy and environmental management software company, as well as founder of Cooler, a startup whose mission is to connect every purchase to a solution for global warming. At Redefining Progress, Michel led designing and advocating for the world's most aggressive climate legislation, which was signed into California state law. He served as a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow with the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee, Director of Environmental Quality for the City of New York, Assistant Commissioner for its Department of Environmental Protection, and founder and director of the Environmental Policy Program at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. He earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. at U.C. Berkeley and is an alumnus of Deep Springs College. Michel presently serves on the boards of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Ceres as well as on the advisory board of Vice President Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.
A renowned and visionary leader in energy and technology, and MacArthur "Genius Grant" award winner, Saul started WattzOn with the goal of helping individuals and groups to understand how their choices and actions impact climate change, global energy consumption and use of fossil fuels. Saul is a serial entreprenuer and is the founder and Chief Scientist at Other Lab, a pioneering studio of engineering and design focused on energy and sustainability. Saul holds a Ph.D in Physics from MIT.
At Twitter, Raffi @raffi is the lead of the platform's APIs, including the geospatial APIs that adds a "where" to the "when" aspect of the Twitter ecosystem. Raffi founded WattzOn to help people understand their personal energy consumption in light of global energy production. Raffi received a Bachelor's degree and two Master's degrees from MIT, where he also worked at the famed MIT Media Lab.
Jim McBride holds a PhD in Physics from MIT and was a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Media Lab. Jim works alongside Saul Griffith at Other Lab, the innovative engineering and design studio focused on energy and sustainability. Jim's experience has a wide span from quantum computing to quantitative financial trading systems. Jim founded WattzOn to help people to more broadly understand their real energy footprint.
A former Managing Director at Charles River Ventures, Ted has a remarkable track record investing in early-stage companies with numerous IPOs and successful acquisitions. In addition he brings significant experience in business operations, government relations and politics to the team. Recently he was on the National Finance Committee for Barack Obama. Ted holds a PhD in Engineering from Stanford University.
As first President & CEO of the U.S. Green Buildings Council, Christine led its growth into a highly influential coalition of 5,000 companies and organizational members, 70 chapters and 50 staff. Over her five-year tenure, the Council launched and had wide success for the LEED standards for green buildings, and for the Greenbuild conference and expo which drew 30,000 attendees last year. From 1993 to 1997, Ervin served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy where she directed nearly $1 billion in annual investments for clean technologies and energy efficiency in transportation, buildings, manufacturing and distributed generation, and launched numerous initiatives to accelerate sustainable energy markets.
David Arfin is Founder and CEO of First Energy Finance, LLC which provides products and services to accelerate the growth of renewable energy generating projects. David was Vice President of Strategy for SolarCity, where he invented the SolarLease, the first-of-its-kind solar financing program that enabled over 20,000 homeowners, commercial and government customers to adopt solar power, save money, and not have to make a large upfront payment. In November 2009 SolarLease was named by Scientific America as the first of twenty world-changing ideas to build a cleaner, healthier and smarter world. Prior to SolarCity, David was co-founder and CEO of GlooLabs, (acquired by Cisco Systems), co-founded Flywheel Communications, and was founder and CEO of CLE Group (acquired by Practising Law Institute). He received an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, an MA in Public Policy Analysis from the Claremont Graduate University, and a BA in Political Science from UCLA.
Professor Schmalensee served as Dean of MIT Sloan School of Management from 1998 through 2007, and was a member of Council of Economic Advisers at the White House from 1990 - 1996. He is one of the nation's leading authorities on energy markets and de-regulation. His book (co-authored with Paul Joskow) Markets for Power, was an influential blueprint for the deregulation of electricity markets.
Professor Kulatilaka serves as the Director of the Clean Energy and Sustainability Initiative at Boston University, where he works with senior university leadership on research and teaching projects. He has published extensively in top academic journals as well as influential managerial publications. He is the co-author, with Martha Amram, of Real Options: Managing Strategic Investment in an Uncertain World, published by Harvard Business School Press. Professor Kulatilaka holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Imperial College, London), a S.M. in Decision and Control (Harvard University), and a Ph.D. in Economics/Finance (MIT).
Luke is a recognized expert on agile product management of software products and is the former president of the Agile Software Association.. He is also the author of three books and numerous articles on software product management. Luke was vice president of business development in the U.S. for Aladdin Knowledge Systems; vice president of engineering and product development at Aurigin Systems Inc.; education technical director at ObjectSpace Inc.; and vice president of systems engineering at EDS Fleet Services. Luke graduated magna cum laude with a B.S.E. in computer engineering and an M.S.E. in computer science and engineering from the University of Michigan.
